Motorola Xoom - The First PC Tablet with Android Honeycomb


At the Consumer Electronics Association (CES) on January 5, 2011, Motorola Xoom was awarded as the best gadget of the year. It is a tablet media player that predicted will become the true competitor of iPad, Blackberry PlayBook or Samsung Galaxy Tab. Motorola Xoom is the first tablet that used the Android Honeycomb operating system. It also becomes a model example of Google to promote Honeycomb designed specifically for the tablet device. Below are the technical specifications of this tablet.
Display
It has a 10.1-inch multi-touch capacitive touch screen display, 160 ppi, Gorilla Glass (resistant coating), resolution of 1280×800 pixels and aspect ratio of 16:10. It weighs 730 grams with the dimensions of 249.1 mm in height, 167.8 mm in width, and 12.9 mm in depth. It features ambient light sensors, barometer, magnetometer (compass), S-GPS, 3-axis accelerometer and 3-axis gyroscope.
Processor and OS
The tablet is equipped with Nvidia Tegra 2 T20, 1 GHz dual-core processor and 1 GB DDR2 of SDRAM. It also has an internal flash memory of 32 GB and external slot microSD card after software update. Motorola Xoom is packed with Android 3.0 Honeycomb and it is upgradable to Android 3.2 version. The update of 3.1 Honeycomb has been held outside of U.S and it will deliver significant changes include the activation of SD card slot.
Camera
Motorola Xoom comes with 5 MP rear camera with 4× digital zoom, autofocus, dual LED flash and the 2 MP front facing camera. It can record 720p of video at 30 frames per second.
Multimedia
The tablet supports AAC, AAC+, AMR NB, AMRWB, MP3, and XMF audio formats and supports H.263, H.264, MPEG4, and VP8 video formats.
Connectivity
For CDMA model, it runs on EVDO Rev. A network and for the GSM model it runs on GPRS/EDGE Class 12 UMTS/HSDPA. The tablet also features Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, Class 2, micro-HDMI 1.4 (type D), micro-USB 2.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n.
In general, the Motorola Xoom is the first 10.1 inches tablet that uses OS Android Honeycomb. This is a stylish tablet as it has a minimalistic design and the display is excellent as it is brighter, sharper and it has better quality than the iPad. The capacitive touch screen is highly responsive. It also features Video HD recording and a high quality front facing camera for great video chats. Unfortunately, it is quite heavy-weight for a tablet PC, there is no much accessory option, and it does not support flash.
